Hazelbury Bryan Primary School

Admissions Policy

The admission policy follows, that laid down, by the Dorset County Council. ALL of Hazelbury Bryan’s admission (and selection) are conducted through our local authority based on Dorset County Council (see web-link below).

The children start at the beginning of the school year in which they are five. All children can start school full time, but parents can request part time arrangements for any period until the child reaches compulsory school age.

We have our own Pre-school, Barn Owls which is part of our Foundation base and works with our Reception Class – this affords us excellent relationships and transition. Good liaison also exists between school and local child care facilities. Staff visit these centres, and their leaders also visit us. Children due to start attend taster sessions. There is a parents’ meeting for the new reception parents to answer queries and meet their child’s new teacher in the Summer term preceding their September start. The school admission limit is 17 children, per academic year group and providing the year group is not oversubscribed then places can be offered to children living outside the catchment area.

You can place your child’s name on a waiting list, if we are oversubscribed in a particular age group and if a space becomes available, then you will be offered it. Access to a place at Hazelbury Bryan Primary may also be obtained through an appeals process. Our Admission Officer at Dorset County Council will support families through this process.
