What is Happening in Owls this Spring Term

This term in the Foundation Base we are getting creative!

We are improving the strength in our fingers and hands with our new playdough station meaning we can access playdough every day.

We have also created a role play room for the children to act our their stories and encourage imagination. We have introduced story making (story maps and actions) and also story time where the children make up their own stories and then act out.

Traditional Stories is our running theme and we have started with Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have tried porridge, made lots of arts and crafts of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and even had a visit from Goldilocks herself!! We will also be doing lots of activities focussing on the story of The Three Little Pigs and The Enormous Turnip.

In maths the children are continuing to become more and more familiar with Numicon and this term we are using the shapes to represent teen numbers, compare quantities and carry out simple addition and subtraction calculations. We will also be learning about 3d and 2d shapes and pattern making.

To keep physical we are doing daily ‘Go Noodle’ dance sessions and Storycises (exercise program that focuses on key movement and coordination skills). In our PE sessions we are doing gymnastics and yoga as well as our weekly welly walks. We are learning about winter weather on our walks and will be looking out for lots of characteristics of winter e.g. frost, ice, berries, puddles, brown leaves and bare trees.

We will be doing ‘Plan-Do-Tell’ each week where we plan what we would like to explore, go and explore what we have planned and then talk about what we have done and learnt and set ourselves challenges for next time,

There is lots of fun and exploration happening this term in Owls class and the Foundation Base.
