What is Happening in Owls this Summer Term
This half term in Owls class our theme is ‘Fact or Fiction’. We will be learning about traditional stories. We will be comparing story books and information books as well as learning about traditional language in story books e.g. Once upon a time… The children will have plenty of opportunities to write their own tales in our ‘Story Making Den’ role play area. If your child has any traditional tales at home that they would like to share with us we would like them to bring them in (we will be focusing more on traditional versions of these tales rather than Disney interpretations).
You will notice that our first thing in the morning activities will change slightly with the children undertaking some more structures activities aimed at improving writing and fine motor skills. You are welcome to stay as usual and help/join in with your child with these activities.
In Maths we will be doing some work on capacity and weighing as well as estimating and adding, and we will be further consolidating all the maths skills we have learned in Owls class so far. During the first week of term we will be finding out about a whole range of traditional stories and developing our new role play area. Having established which stories the children want to focus on in more detail we will then plan our learning linking our activities to these stories.
In our ‘Understanding the World’ curriculum area we will be using the beebots (programmable toys) and hope to do some scientific experimenting and testing as well as cooking. We will also be carrying out some musical and artistic activities related to the theme.
In ‘Personal Social and Emotional Development’ we will continue to think about the skills we need to be good learners as well as learning about building positive relationships.
We are looking forward to a fun filled half term!
