What is Happening in Owls this Summer Term
Welcome back to the last half term of this academic year. This half term our theme is ‘Our Wonderful World’ and the children have decided they would like to learn about Minibeasts. We will have the adult and baby stick insects in our class this half term and will be learning more about how they grow and change. We will be going on minibeast hunts and learning about their habitats, food, life cycles etc. Our ‘storytelling’ story will be ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and we will be doing all sorts of activities across the curriculum related to this story as well as the theme. The children are going to vote this week on what they would like in our role play area for the next few weeks, so watch his space….
This half term as you know we will be swimming three times a week in our pool. We are so lucky to be able to have this facility and we are really looking forward to seeing the progress the children make as they build confidence in the water and swimming ability. As you can imagine fitting three swimming sessions into our already busy week does put pressure on our timetable. For this reason the children will have one session of guided reading per week instead of two sessions from now on. They will continue to have reading activities during their phonics sessions and as usual we will hear them read their home reading books at least once a week and change them on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If any parents have any spare time during the week and would like to volunteer to help hear readers during the school day we would always welcome this extra help.
We look forward to a busy and exciting half term.
Thank you for your continued support.
