Owls and Barn Owls have been learning about Autumn on our welly walks recently. This week we collected Autumn objects to make bracelets.

In literacy this week we picked our pumpkin from our growing area and made it into delicious pumpkin soup. First, we scooped out the seeds, then we chopped the pumpkin and then added it to the pot along with some of our home grown potatoes.

It’s all been about patterns this week in the Base. We have made patterns with leaves and sticks on our welly walk, repeating patterns using paints and stamps, dinosaurs, games on the interactive whiteboard. The Owls and Barn Owls have all been brilliant at spotting and making their own repeating patterns.

We are really enjoying our new block play area. This week a couple of children decided to make a car that they could actually sit in, the excitement soon spread and we ended up with what can only be described as a stretch limousine that had a seat for every child! It also had a steering wheel, foot pedals, a sound system, wing mirrors, lights, windscreen wipers and arm rests of some of the seats! Great construction and teamwork Owls and Barn Owls!

This week in the Foundation Base we have been having lots fun taking part in different physical activities. We have been building outside with the big bricks, using our bodies in ‘storycises’ and yoga and had our first PE session using the large apparatus. We have also been making our own ‘Mr Potato Head’ using the play dough and accessories. All of these activities are helping to strengthen our gross and fine motor skills!

The Foundation Base enjoyed meeting Harold on Wednesday and learnt all about how to keep ourselves healthy. They learnt that we need to eat and drink healthy foods and drinks like water and milk and that milk helps us build strong bones and teeth. They know that having a good night sleep is important to help us grow and that exercise is also important when being healthy!

Our photo this week is of our amazing self portraits...simply gorgeous!

We have had another busy week settling in in the Foundation Base. On Monday we rode our bikes and scooter and practised taking in turns and sharing fairly with our friends. On Tuesday we went on a welly walk, we found berries (which we learned we should not touch), scrunchy leaves and lots of fluffy feathers. We also enjoyed our mindfulness session learning how to relax our bodies and had lots of fun making different yoga animal poses.

We have had such a fun, busy week in the Foundation Base getting to know each other and our new classroom. We have been playing lots both indoors and outdoors and we are loving exploring all of our toys. We are becoming experts at washing our hands and have learnt a song to help us.

Well Done Owls and Barn Owls for settling back in so brilliantly!
